It seems like we could lose all of the IPv4 assesses soon unless we switch to a new standard very quickly. Experts are predicting that the Internet will run out of the existing IPv4 standard by next year, after that, computers might not be able to connect to the internet, causing something that is much worse than the feared Y2K that happened as we were approaching the new millennium. The fix? IPv6, which uses a 128 bit format unlike the 32 bit current format, which allows much more users. IPv4 has 4.5 billion possible codes, and 96% is allocated.
