Southland’s third season kicks off on TNT tonight and I can’t wait to see how the show has changed since last year. If you haven’t seen this show, you’ve been missing out, on a lot. If you don’t believe me, read these amazing (and recent!) reviews by critics. The Boston Herald gave Southland an A-, and called it “the most authentic cop drama on any channel.” The San Francisco Gate called Southland a “television miracle” and that “the performances are equal to the quality of writing.” The Wall Street Journal wrote a glowing review of Southland, calling it “one of the finest dramas on television in years, in any genre.” Now that’s a good review! This will be the longest season ever for the show, with 10 episodes ordered, (the first season had 7 and the second season was cut off at 6) and will be the first to be produced while being under TNT’s control. In addition to the show getting a steady slot for it to grow, it also put the focus on reduced amount of characters, with 4 very diverse characters. Detectives Lydia Adams (Regina King) and Sammy Bryant, (Shawn Hatosy) and Officers Ben Sherman (Ben McKenzie) and John Cooper (Michael Cudlitz) solve mysteries and fight crime as well as dealing with their personal lives, which is a story in itself. I’ve seen every episode (which isn’t saying much since there have only been 13 produced) and this is one of the best cop dramas I’ve seen on television. I highly recommend that you watch this show. It will premiere it’s third season this Tueaday at 10 P.M. on TNT.
