After years of speculation, the strongest of which has happened in the last few months, Katie Couric will be leaving the “CBS Evening News.”According to a report by The New York Times, Katie will announce her exit sometime this week, but will still go to London for coverage of the Royal Wedding. When she returns from London, CBS will announce her successor, who will likely be 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley in the first week of May. Couric’s contract with CBS News ends on June 4th, and the network wants a month of transition from Couric to the new anchor (presumably Scott Pelley.) Couric has said that she hasn’t made a decision as early as two weeks ago, but has apparently made one in the last few days. She’s dodged questions on ‘The View’ and on NBC’s ‘Today’ show, which she previously anchored with Matt Lauer. Couric’s last day hosting the evening news will be sometime before her contract expires, presumably sometime in late May or early June.
