In a statement to PEOPLE magazine, Katie Couric has announced that she is leaving her post as anchor of the CBS Evening News after 5 years. In the statement, she says, “I have decided to step down from the CBS Evening News, I’m really proud of the talented team on the CBS Evening News and the award-winning work we’ve been able to do in the past five years in addition to the reporting I’ve done for 60 Minutes and CBS Sunday Morning. In making the decision to move on, I know the Evening News will be in great hands, but I am excited about the future.”
That future will possibly include a syndicated talk show or a post at another network, like ABC News or Couric could possibly go back to NBC. When asked about her future plans, she said “I am looking at a format that will allow me to engage in more multi-dimensional storytelling,” but nothing has been signed or agreed to yet, as she said that talks are “still being discussed.”
As I mentioned before, her last day anchoring the CBS Evening News should be sometime in mid-to-late May to early June.
