Big changes are coming to NBC’s highest-rated drama. Law & Order SVU, which will be the only surviving Law & Order series come next season, will be enduring a big shakeup for it’s thirteenth season, as Mariska Hargitay will leave her position at the precinct but will stay on the show.According to TVLine, Hargitay, who plays Detective Olivia Benson, has been granted a scaling back of her involvement on the show. After the first 13 episodes of season 13, she will be promoted as supervisor at the Special Victims Unit, leaving her duty as detective. Since she’s leaving her post as detective, yes—a new female detective will replace her. The report goes on to say that producers are looking to replace her with Jennifer Love Hewitt, who guest-starred on the show earlier this season as a rape victim. Hargitay adopted a baby girl named Amaya Josephine in April, which was likely the cause of her working less on the show. Her co-star, Christopher Meloni, is still in contract negotiations, and is reportedly seeking a raise. It is unlikely though, that he will have a deal before NBC’s upfront, which is coming up this Monday.
