News Flash: Steve Jobs Passes Away At 56 — 1955-2011

Via Apple:

Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.

If you would like to share your thoughts, memories, and condolences, please email rememberingsteve@apple.com

Steve Jobs has changed my life in immeasurable ways. I will never forget what he did for computers, technology, and the world. He will never be forgotten by me.

From all us iPhone users: Thank you, Steve Jobs.

Most Wanted: Apple’s Big Event

This week, is an odd one. For the first time since the list was made, I didn’t post 2 consecutive weeks of the Most Wanted List. I didn’t do it intentionally, but when I realized it, I found it pointless to, because it was already too late. For that, I’m sorry. Although I feel a bit awkward to put out one after a long time, this week is a very eventful and important one. I think you guys know what the first one is. It’s very obvious due to this week’s events. So here we go: here’s the list!

1. Apple’s ‘Let’s Talk iPhone’ Event

It’s that time of year again. Actually, it should have occurred back in June, but a little device called the Verizon iPhone got in the way of that. Nonetheless, its here. Apple is expected to unveil some kind of device, whether its the iPhone 5 or 4S or iPod Touch 5 or all, is yet to be known. What will it be? Tune in at Apple’s press event in Cupertino today for the announcement (note: It will be the first iPhone event without founder and former CEO Steve Jobs).

2. Homeland

I didn’t get the chance to alert you of this show, but this one’s a MUST WATCH! The crazy thing is that this show wasn’t on my radar at all, and it turns out that it’s one of (if not,) the best new show of the Fall. Plot in one sentence: A slightly crazy CIA Agent suspects that a soldier who was in captivity for 8 years has been turned against his country. Two words for you all: WATCH IT.

3. Parks and Recreation

The season is off to a great start, and with last week’s episode full of liquor and Tammys, I can’t wait for what’s in store for TV’s best comedy.

4. American Horror Story – Series Premiere

The reviews haven’t been great, but the fact of the matter is, nothing likethis has been done on TV. Many are calling it scary, bizarre, and outrageous. I’ll watch the first 3 episodes to give it a chance, but I’m very reluctant.

5. iPod

Will the iPod classic be discontinued? That’s another question at Apple’s big event today.

That’s all for this week! Again, sorry for the lack of lists and posts, I’m trying to figure things out to make the s

All Eyes Are On Apple for WWDC Keynote Today

Today, the tech world is on high notice as Apple begins it’s Wordwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco, and is expected to introduce many new features regarding software updates ranging from iOS, to Mac OS X, to possibly, a new cloud service.

Apple is extremely cautious this time around when it comes to keeping things under wraps, especially since the leak of the iPhone 4 caused Apple’s biggest embarrassment since the Apple Lisa. They seemed to have accomplished this difficult task, but things usually leak minutes before the event starts. The iCloud media service looks to be a sure thing, and the unveilings of Mac OS X Lion and iOS 5 are imminent. The things I’m most interested on is iOS 5 and iCloud. I can’t imagine that iOS 5 will just have a few adjustments, like a revamped notifications system. That wouldn’t be anything new, just different. Apple usually has the “wow” factor at these events and I think they have a hidden surprise that no one saw coming. Whether that will be iOS 5 or iCloud is anyone’s guess, but I’m hoping it’s for both.

Make sure you go around the web for live blogs of the event. Mashable and CNET will be live blogging, and I’m sure all the Apple fan sites will as well. The WWDC keynote begins at 10AM PST (1PM Eastern Time).

Apple Unveils iPad 2! Here’s What’s New

So this was almost as certain as the sun coming up this morning, but Apple indeed unveiled the iPad 2 today, and here’s what you need to know:

1. It has a completely new, thinner design

Apple wanted to make a distinction in its models, similar to what happened with the iPhone and the iPhone 3G, so they introduced a brand new design with the iPad 2. The design looks similar to the iPod Touch, with a more solid-but still round design. Also, the iPad is now completely flat on the back, a “stuck” volume rocker, and get this: it’s 33% thinner! Yes, it’s a third thinner than it’s already insanely thin predecessor. 2. It’s Wayyyyyyy Faster

The iPad is now a dual-core processor with the debut of Apple’s new A5, which means that it’s twice as fast as the A4 processor that was used on the previous iPad, iPhone 4, and the 4th generation iPod Touch. Also, Apple has said that it has graphics improvements that make videos and games perform nine times better than the A4 chip did.

3. It has Cameras!

Yes! It’s plural! The iPad indeed has 2 cameras, one in the front, one in the back, and the rear camera of course, records 720p HD video. So far, there’s no word on how good the quality of the photos will be, or if the iPad will take photos at all.

It’s in Black AND White!

People always get excited when apple announces a new color for their devices, but they always have the problem of delays with white! It’s been a problem that has been haunting them since the release of the first iPhone 3G back in 2008. It seems like Apple has buckled down on the promising and are promising the availability of black and white from day one of the iPad 2’s release.

4. Better Gaming!

I already mentioned that the A5 chip will play games nine times faster, but another great feature for gaming that has been added is that the iPad will now have a six-axis gyroscope! Much more accurate, gravitational gaming along with the basic accelerometer that is in all of Apple’s touchscreen devices.

An assurance of this model is that the prices will not be raised, even with the addition of the cameras, gyroscope, and the new A5 chip. Also, Steve Jobs made a surprise appearance to introduce the iPad 2! A great, welcoming surprise. One disappointment was that this iPad will not have the amazing Retina Display that is in place on the iPhone 4 and current iPod Touch. Oh well, it’s still likely to sell tens of millions this year, so get ready: the iPad 2 comes out a week after this Friday on March 2nd.
