VMAs TONIGHT!

It’s that time of year! In the words of Adam Levine, it’s the “one day a year when MTV pretends to still care about music” as the long-running awards show takes place tonight in Los Angeles.

Performers are seemingly being added by the hour, and it’s an advertiser’s dream: Bruno Mars, Adele, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, Beyoncé, Jay-Z & Kanye West, Young the Giant, and Lady Gaga. Need I say more? This is going to be a jam-packed show with basically no time to spare. Most of this year’s performers are nominated, and there’s sure to be something crazy. Call me crazy, but I think it will have to do something with Lady Gaga’s wardrobe. How will she top last year’s meat dress? You’ll have to find out tonight when the MTV Video Music Awards airs tonight at 9PM on MTV, and BY THE WAY, There is an all-new episode of Jersey Shore airing tonight before the VMA pre-show. The special post-fight episode of Jersey Shore airs tonight at 7PM on MTV. Also, the sneak peek of a new MTV series named I Just Want My Pants Back will air right after the VMAs.

Most Wanted: Thor Reigns the List!

Image

I am once again deeply sorry for the delay, lots of things have been going on and I have just come around to typing up this list. This week, a major picture that has been murdering the box office internationally will debut on Friday, and it looks like it will make a big splash, just like Fast Five did just this past weekend. Also, and artist, and a show that has been on the list will be on, because they’re both that frickin’ good. Before you start drooling, here’s the list!

1. Thor

The Marvel classic has finally made it’s way to the silver screen and will probably do so with a bang. Critics are raving the superhero thriller, starring Australian actor Chris Hemsworth. If you want an action packed adventure and you need something to watch after seeing Fast Five last weekend, this should be at the GOP of your list, and that’s why it’s on mine.

2. Adele

This Pop/Soul goddess has been ruling my iPod since I added her latest album, 21, in February. Now everyone has gotten to their senses and are hearing her incredible music along with me, with her latest single “Rolling In The Deep” hitting an astonishing #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Yes, THE HOT 100! never did I think that music of this kind would become so popular with so many people, and the news gets even better: She might hit #1 this week!

3. The Voice

The first episode blew the minds of millions, and we’re expecting the same for episode 2, which airs tonight. Get ready! This may be NBC’s first smash hit since the Comcast takeover.

4. ‘Judas’ Music Video

The song may not be so original (sounds just like ‘Bad Romance’ to me) but the video should be a work of art, just like every other Gaga production. The video will debut exclusively on May 5th on E! At. 7 and 11:30.

5. Mob Wives

I never thought I would get into such a trashy show (but then again, I watch Jersey Shore) but this show is so addictive, you’ll be glued to the screen, even though the theme song is horrifically unbearable.

That’s a wrap! Join me next week for a freshly new Most Wanted List!

Grammys are TONIGHT! What to Expect…

Image

Were getting closer and closer to the most anticipated awards show of the season, the Oscars! But until then, we’re going to focus our attention to the most important awards show for music, the Grammys!

The show is tonight, and everyone that you love in music is going to be there. One thing that may (or may not) surprise you us that the spotlight has shifted in the Grammys. In the last couple of days, many have been wondering not who is going to win some awards, but what Lady Gaga is going to wear. Last year, we all know about the dress that she wore with what seemed like some hard plastic rings that swirled to her body and she held a big spiky ball on her hand. Many think that it looks crazy, I actually thought it was Gaga at her most elegant. You almost never see her wear a long dress that looks normal, and even though it wasn’t, if you took off that spiky ball and the ring spiral, she would look amazing. She still did in my opinion, but I hope she doesn’t mess it up this year, especially with the craziness that was the meat dress at last years VMAs. Don’t get me wrong, it was definitely cool and creative, but I don’t think that it’s formal to wear at something like that to an event as big as the Grammys.

The Grammys are a bit tough to predict, just because main categories like record and album of the year have all genres included, unlike other genre-centric categories. One category that I’m still not ruling out as an obvious winner is the Best New Artist category. I doubt that Esperanza Spalding will win, but the other nominees are tough to choose. Drake and Justin Buber are the frontrunners, but Florence+The Machine really shocked the world with their performance at the VMAs and their lead single was very successful. Mumford and Sons also exploded this year, with Indie Alternative Rock lovers calling their album one of the best of the year.

Speaking of Alternative, that category is has been getting very competitive in the last few years, and has been becoming more mainstream as well. Arcade Fire, along with The Black Keys and Vampire Weekend are the frontrunners in this category, and this category is also too close to call, but I’m actually going to go out on a limb and predict that Arcade Fire will win this. Grammy voters look at quality, as well as popularity and album sales, and Arcade Fire has been the most successful when it comes to all three.

For Best Pop Vocal Album, I’m a bit stuck on as well, as Susan Boyle, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, John Mayer, and Lady Gaga are nominated in this category. The only reason I’m stuck is because Susan Boyle is surprisingly the most successful of all the albums nominated. Her album, I Dreamed a Dream was the second-best selling album of 2009 and was got the best opening week for a debut artist in over a decade with 701,000 copies sold in it’s first week alone. This one is too close to call for me. In the dance category, this one definitely goes to Rihanna. The closest competitor was Lady Gaga and the barely recognized Robyn, but Rihanna definitely killed with “Only Girl (in the World)” and her album as a whole. For best Pop Collaboration, B.o.B, Eminem, and Hayley Williams are nominated for “Airplanes Part II”, Herbie Hancock for “Imagine”, Elton John and Leon Russell for “If it Wasn’t for Bad” Lady Gaga and Beyonce for “Telephone” and Katy Perry & Snoop Dogg for “California Gurls”. I love “Airplanes” (and hope it wins), but i think Lady Gaga has this one with Beyonce. It was truly a great combo, so I think it could win, but I’m still crossing my fingers for “Airplanes”.

On the hip-hop side, Eminem will deservedly dominate this genre, as he will almost certainly win for Best Rap Solo Performance, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Album, along with the huge categories of Album of The Year and Record of The Year along with Rihanna. I truly couldn’t be happier that Eminem is the frontrunner with nominations and it could be the best comeback in the last few decades, and it should not be missed.

As far as Grammy coverage goes, you can’t go wrong with E! They have complete coverage of the ceremony starting with “Countdown to the Red Carpet” at 5 EST, and then “Live from the Red Carpet with Giuliana Rancic and Ryan Seacrest starting at 6 and ends when the ceremony starts. You can catch the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards tonight at 8 PM on CBS.
